In Praise of Stone

This project is a formal exploration that begins with the mass of stone, an artifact of Brahma’s hand in the museum. I was intrigued by how stone, with its gentle curves, can both soften form and cast dramatic contrasts of light and shadow. The design process began with a series of 2D generative drawings, which gradually developed into a three-dimensional spatial experience. The final design of a theatre reflects a sculptural process of addition and subtraction, where volumes are carved, layered, and composed much like working with stone itself. Through this project I gained valuable insight into design iteration, a lesson that continues to shape how I think about form.
